Magick

"There are more things in heaven and earth ...
Than are dreamt of in your philosophy."
- William Shakespeare, Hamlet Act I Scene V

"Not only is the universe stranger than we imagine, it is stranger than we can imagine."
-Sir Arthur Eddington

"Once a man came to me and spoke for hours about 'his great visions...' He asked me for confirmation, saying 'Are these wondrous dreams true?' I would say that they were if they make you become More human, More kind to every creature and plant That you know." - Hafiz

Why, sometimes I've believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast." From Alice in Wonderland

-Lewis Carroll

Ok so here is the deal. This word "magick" has all sorts of misunderstandings associated with it, but originally it meant the same as the word "science" and is about the pursuit of knowledge and I add to that a sense of wonder and adventure about everything. So for me it is about understanding all of reality and is not about anything beyond real or supernatural or anything else. I would actually describe myself as a healthy skeptic. I will say that everything is possible, but I won't say I am certain about anything. I really want to keep mind and heart open and also be able to change my mind about anything. I am trying to be as human as possible. Oh and another thing I am not "New Age." I do love, love and it is a powerful, healing force, but it is not all there is, plus it is more than a lot of bliss and butterflies. In fact it is a Rose with thorns. It smells heavenly, looks beautiful but can also be one of the most painful experiences of all.

I'm not here to push my beliefs onto anybody. I'm not even here to tell people that they have to be spiritual or believe in anything. I am just trying to be open to all experience and perspectives and to weigh and consider without excluding or boxing or projecting my own judgments onto any person. I want to be able to watch and listen and know a person or an idea, including myself. I want to remain curious about everything. I want to try to be kind to everybody. I want to help those I can and who need it, especially those who cannot always speak up for themselves. I am not always successful and sometimes I am least successful when I think I most successful and vice versa. I am an adventurous introvert who has to work at being courageous everyday when most of the time it might be easier to just hide in my room and read books or watch DVDs all day and then go on regular camping and hiking trips to reconnect with nature.

I am mostly concentrating on my art, writing and work with children, but I still do read tarot occasionally. My approach to tarot is as a storyteller. Tarot is a wonderful way to tell somebody a story about themselves using very old symbols from ancient myth that are probably etched onto the collective unconscious of humanity and that is why the cards can be so useful in helping people connect to what they already know about themselves and life in general. It is a misconception in my opinion that anybody can know or predict the future for certain. Tarot like astrology is a way to examine influences and possibilities. I am not sure exactly how it works, but I know I am using a combination of listening, intuition and reason mixed with a lot of questioning when I read the cards and that I and the person whose cards I am reading are co-creating the stories together. It's the connection and creative collaboration that is the magical part for me because it is an opportunity for two people to communicate openly with each other and to learn something about each other and ourselves. If you're interested in a tarot reading from me, please contact me.
