Annette Sugden is an artist, writer and therapist who was born in Portland, OR Nov. 23, 1967. She grew up in the Tri Cities, WA, Oakland and Orinda, CA and Maple Valley, WA. In 1985 at the age of 17 she spent a year living and studying in Australia, including 3 months on a sheep farm. As an adult she studied acting and theatre at the University of Washington for 2 years. She left UW and acted in experimental theatre and experimental short films in Seattle. After that she worked for Seattle filmmaker Karl Krogstad, including several production and small acting roles in his documentary film, "Surrealism." In 1991 she moved to San Francisco and studied film production at San Francisco State University until 1994 where she made a short avant garde film "Self Portrait 25/Annoyingly Self Conscious B-," and adapted a Charles Bukowsky short story, "Bring Me Your Love." In 2000 she moved to London to concentrate on art and writing. She lived there for almost 2 years before briefly living in Vilnius, Lithuania and then returning to Seattle, WA in 2002. 

 

For as long as she can remember Annette has been drawn to art and music. She creates in whatever medium is available or feels right in the moment including oil pastel, collage, photography, film, theatre, dance, poetry and other spoken and written word forms.

 

She now resides in Los Angeles, CA, where she lives, creates, writes and studies kabbalah. She also works with children with developmental differences as a teacher/therapist. She has featured as part of the Los Angeles Poetry Posse on the podcast radio show "Sundowner Lounge." In August, 2006 the poems "Crush" and "Sideshow" were published in the Los Angeles online literary journal "Poetic Diversity," where she is now managing editor. In 2007 she was a spotlit poet in the magazine Gentle Strength Quarterly who also published several of her poems and one of her photographs. One of her photographs appears in the 2006 Beyond Baroque magazine to be published December, 2006.She is currently working on self-publishing a chapbook "Don't Make Vincent Gallo Mad." She is also a singer and is trying to get up the courage to write lyrics and meet and collaborate with other musicians again
